» Artist's resume

Maker's statement: I enjoy and question the traditions of wheel-thrown vessels. I seek to develop techniques that allow for ?plastic completion? of forms, both hand-built and on the potters wheel. To come back to a form when it has firmed and rekindle a relationship to turn and decorate is for me an 'alien' process. I prepare clay bodies using local clays and their sieved aggregates. These bodies are highly textured and encourage development of 'active' 3D surfaces. These 'tough' clays allow the works to be packed in the kiln under load with minimum shelving. I have been woodfiring for 16 years. I fire my 80 cubic feet kiln on red gum and cypress pine for between two and three days.
